Lemon Farm Organic Market
Every Wednesday (3pm to 6pm) & Saturday (8am to 2pm) at the Lemon Farm is an organic market.
A huge selection of locally and organically grown fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs are available. Also on offer are a range of organic dry goods. For organic produce the prices are all very reasonable.
Online ordering is also available HERE for those who can't always make it along to the market on a Saturday morning. Arrangements can be made to have your box of fruit and vegetables picked up or dropped off.
While there enquire about the SMBI LETS (Southern Moreton Bay Islands Local Energy Trading System) project. SMBI LETS is a community-based exchange system, sharing skills, talents and interests. The project is a great way to foster self reliance, self esteem and build community spirit. Either have a chat about the project at the market or phone for more information on 0421 573 555

The Macleay Island Heritage Trail
It's best to start at the main jetty in the south of the island and circle in a clockwise direction. The Heritage Trail is about 24km in length and can be entered and left at any point. Follow the signs (a white arrow on a blue background) which are mostly mounted on telephone poles. Walk or cycle the trail to explore the heritage (evidence of early occupants of the island, both Aboriginal and European) as well as the flora and fauna of the island. Macleay Island is part of an internationally recognised wetland and migratory bird habitat of Moreton Bay (a RAMSAR declared area) and hosts several rare and threatened species.
The RKLM Heritage Group are also worth visiting if interested in the history of the island. The group are based in The Heritage Room which adjoins the Macleay Island Community Library in Russell Terrace. The Heritage Room holds an extensive collection of documents, including maps, transcripts of local histories, island newspapers and photographs. The collection is available for reference to any member of the public during opening hours on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. The RKLM Heritage Group publishes several booklets about the history of the Bay Islands that are available for purchase.
